Connect a mail app
Use the exact values in Settings → Mail clients in webmail, or Client Setup in the mailbox portal. Hostnames and ports can vary by service configuration.
| Setting | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Account type | IMAP |
| Username | Your full mailbox email address |
| Password | Your mailbox password or an app password |
| Incoming server | The hostname, IMAP port, and security shown in your account |
| Outgoing server | The hostname, SMTP port, and security shown in your account |
| Outgoing authentication | Your full email address and password |
Do not use docs.nitmail.com as your mail server unless your account settings explicitly show it.
Outlook, Thunderbird, and other mail apps
- Add an email account in your mail app.
- If automatic setup fails, choose manual configuration and IMAP.
- Copy the incoming and outgoing settings from NitMail, including encryption.
- Use your full email address for both usernames.
- Send a test message and reply to it from another mailbox.
The location of manual setup varies by app and version. Match the settings above rather than choosing a similarly named provider.
Downloaded setup profiles
The setup page offers Thunderbird XML, Outlook XML, and Apple profile downloads. These contain connection settings and your email address, not your password. Client support for importing a profile varies; manual setup remains available.
Use a separate password for each device
Create an app password with a recognizable label, such as “Laptop Thunderbird.” Copy it into the mail app's password field. If that device is lost or retired, delete its app password without changing credentials on your other devices.
If receiving works but sending fails, check SMTP authentication and encryption separately from IMAP.
